About Us
Department of Computer Science & Engineering (CSE) was established as part of MIST in the academic session 2000-2001 as CSIT. From a modest beginning, offering undergraduate BSc programs to only military students, the dept has now evolved as one of the largest depts at MIST. The dept of CSE now offers BSc program at the undergraduate level, MSc and MEngg at the postgraduate level, as also a doctorate in philosophy Ph.D.
The dept of CSE boasts highly qualified faculties, along with state-of-the-art learning infrastructure which provides an ideal platform for students to hone in their skills in the field of computer sciences. The dept provides an ideal environment for the student to specialize in contemporary fields of Computer Science including Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Machine Learning, Data Analytics, Network & Data Security to name a few. The dept also collaborates with both the industry and Govt departments and agencies thereby establishing a symbiotic leadership for both stakeholders which is especially beneficial for students.
Mission
The mission of the Dept of CSE is drawn from the vision of MIST. The four-pronged missions of the Dept of CSE are as under.
- To provide comprehensive education and conduct research in diverse disciplines of science, engineering, technology, and engineering management.
- To produce technologically advanced intellectual leaders and professionals with high moral and ethical values to meet the socio-economic development of Bangladesh and global needs.
- To conduct collaborative research activities with national and international communities for continuous interaction with academia and industry.
- To provide consultancy, advisory, and testing services to government, industrial, educational, and other organizations by rendering technical support for widening practical knowledge and to contribute to sustainable socio-economic development.
Undergraduate Program

The Department of CSE in MIST started as the CSIT program in 2000, and culminated into the CSE Department on 26th January. A total of 21 batches have graduated from the Department of CSE, MIST, with its alumni working actively in prestigious institutions and organizations across the world. Currently, batches CSE-22 to CSE-25 are pursuing their BSc in CSE degree from this department. |
Postgraduate Program
| The Department of CSE, MIST started its MSc program in 2014, and its PhD program in 2016. As of now, a total of 51 graduates have successfully completed their postgraduate degrees from the Department of CSE, MIST, with 16 obtaining MEngg degree and 35 attaining MSc degree. |  |
Faculties
The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) thrives on the expertise of its experienced and highly professional faculty members. Led by the Head of the Department, our faculty team comprises 3 Professors, 6 Associate Professors, 6 Assistant Professors, and 17 Lecturers, resulting in a commendable teacher-to-student ratio of 1.10. Our faculty members come from diverse research backgrounds, bringing with them varied prior professional experiences from sectors such as the military, industry, and academia. They also possess diverse educational qualifications and backgrounds, offering a wide range of expertise for students to benefit from. Whenever necessary, we also engage domain specialists from esteemed educational institutions like BUET, as well as industry professionals, to supplement our faculty's capabilities. Labs and Teaching Infrastructure
The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) provides a conducive learning environment for students through cutting-edge classrooms and well-equipped laboratories. Our classrooms enable students to grasp the technical aspects of the subject, while our laboratories offer hands-on experience, fostering innovation. With air-conditioned classrooms equipped with broadband wifi, projection systems, and document readers, collaborative learning thrives. Currently, we have several existing laboratories, including the Artificial Intelligence lab, Post Graduate Research lab, Networking lab, and Intelligent Computing Lab.
Moreover, the department is also in the process of constructing a Research Innovation Center (RIC), which will further augment our facilities. The RIC aims to provide a state-of-the-art space for students and faculty to engage in groundbreaking research and innovation. Once completed, the RIC will offer advanced resources and equipment to support cutting-edge projects and initiatives. Establishing the RIC reflects our commitment to fostering a dynamic research culture within the department.

Departmental Library
To enhance the learning resources within the Department, an exclusive Department library has been established, complementing the MIST Central library. With a collection of over 800 books and nearly 300 theses from former students, this library serves as a valuable asset. The selection of books is based on recommendations from both faculty members and students, ensuring their relevance and usefulness in supporting research endeavors.
The library receives substantial usage from students and serves as a vibrant center for research work and project activities conducted within the department. It provides an ideal platform for students enrolled in various courses to exchange ideas and foster collaboration among peers.
Research and Publication
The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) thrives on the synergy between dedicated faculty members and state-of-the-art laboratories, providing an ideal environment for student research and project undertakings. Over the past five years, our collaborative efforts have resulted in over 80 publications in prestigious international and national journals, along with more than 560 conference papers that have made a global impact. This research prowess spans countries like the USA, UK, Japan, India, South Korea, and Spain. Our department actively engages in collaborations with industry partners, exemplified by our recent MoU with "Business Automation" to advance projects in Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, and Data Analytics, bridging the gap between academia and industry.
In addition to industry collaborations, the Department of CSE has expanded its reach through strategic partnerships. We have signed an MoU with Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK) to conduct digital lotteries, ensuring transparency and efficiency in plot allotments. Furthermore, our department has established an MoU with Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) to conduct their admission test, showcasing our expertise in reliable and secure examination systems. These collaborations reflect our commitment to cutting-edge research, innovation, and impactful partnerships, solidifying the Department of CSE's position as a leader in the field.
Conferences and Seminars
The department of CSE strives for its students to excel not only in academics but also in research work. With over 100 conference papers and 35 journal publications since 2020, our students and faculty are actively present in the Computer Science research arena. Recent seminars on "Resilience in the Information Domain", "Evolution of AI" and Career Talks by leading software companies like Dynamic Solution Innovators (DSi) have kept students and faculty alike updated on recent advancements in technology. With industrial training at over 12 reputed companies, UG students also get professional exposure during their stay at MIST. The dept. also got the honor of hosting the 18th International Conference on Computer and Information Technology (ICCIT) in 2015.
Contests
Our students excel in various contests and have certainly made their mark on both national and international arenas with over 40 prizes and have over the years participated in MARS and the European rover challenge, ICPC, NCPC, and various IUPCs, Hackathons, and contests. The department, through its computer club and cybersecurity, grooms the students with weekly classes.
Teams from MIST emerged as the Champion and the 1st Runner-up in the BUP CSE Tech Carnival 2025 Programming Contest. Moreover, teams from MIST also secured 57th and 63rd positions in BUET IUPC-2024. The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), MIST, recently hosted the Talent Hunt 2025 for Level-1 students, featuring a vibrant programming contest that highlighted the skills and enthusiasm of the newest batch. We also proudly hosted the 1st MIST Inter-University Programming Contest (IUPC) on February 2019 with an overwhelming response of 120 teams from 55 Universities nationwide. With the success of IUPC, MIST also got the honor of hosting the NCPC 2020 on 22 February 2020.
Notable Achievements
Under the guidance of experienced faculty members and with the unwavering support of MIST authority, our undergraduate and postgraduate students have consistently achieved remarkable milestones. In 2025, MIST Mars Rover Society achieved the 14th position worldwide in URC 2025 held in Utah, USA. Students of MIST CSE have excelled in prestigious competitions such as the MARS Rover Challenge in the USA, demonstrating their exceptional skills. Moreover, their dedication and self-motivation have been evident in securing multiple best paper awards both domestically and internationally. These talented individuals continuously demonstrate their exceptional capabilities by triumphing in diverse hackathons, programming contests, idea, and innovation competitions, as well as renowned conferences and seminars.
Extra-Curricular Activities
The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) prioritizes not only the academic development of its students but also the enhancement of their communication, teamwork, and leadership skills. By actively encouraging student participation in a wide range of activities, the department creates opportunities for nurturing their social, cultural, and managerial abilities. Our students consistently demonstrate excellence across various platforms. In the Inter Department Football Tournament 2025, the CSE department secured the Runner-Up position, showcasing outstanding teamwork and determination. In addition, the department achieved notable success in the Inter Department Cricket Tournament 2024, where the CSE team earned the Runner-Up title through strong dedication and sporting spirit. Culturally, the CSE department has continued its legacy of achievement. In the Inter Department Cultural Competition 2025, our students earned multiple distinctions: 2nd place in Patriotic Song, 3rd place in Rabindra Sangeet, and 3rd place in Adhunik Song, reflecting the diverse artistic talent within the department. Beyond these major achievements, our students remain actively involved in various cultural events, debate competitions, and leadership development programs, consistently showcasing their potential. They also embrace the importance of balancing academics with recreation by organizing annual intra-department gaming festivals and cricket carnivals, helping to foster a vibrant and engaging atmosphere within the department.
Our Footprints and Alumni
The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) witnessed its first batch of graduates in the year 2004. Since then, a total of more than 1224 students have successfully graduated from our esteemed department. Our alumni have made significant contributions to various sectors, including industry, academia, and the Bangladesh Defense Forces. They have left their mark in renowned international companies such as IBM, CISCO, Oracle, and also in leading organizations within Bangladesh, such as Grameenphone, Robi, Banglalink, Bangladesh Bank, PDB, BTRC, and Enosis Solutions. Moreover, our alumni have excelled as faculty members in prestigious national and international universities, showcasing their expertise and knowledge in the field. Their achievements serve as a testament to the high-quality education and training provided by the Department of CSE.
CSE dept has a separate alumni association in addition to MISTAS (MIST Alumni Association).
Our Projects
The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) goes beyond academic development to foster the communication and leadership skills of its students. It actively encourages and supports their participation in various activities that promote social, leadership, and managerial growth. Our students enthusiastically engage in cultural competitions, debate contests, and leadership development programs, where they consistently demonstrate their exceptional capabilities. Notably, the CSE department has been the consecutive champion in both inter-department cultural competitions and inter-department debate competitions for the past two years. Moreover, our students have excelled in sports as well, securing the championship and runners-up trophies in athletics and cricket tournaments respectively in 2019. Additionally, they know how to enjoy themselves amidst their academic pursuits, organizing annual intra-department gaming (computers!) and cricket festivals.
MIST Computer Club
The MIST Computer Club (MCC)—formerly the MIST Programming Club—has grown from a small initiative into a leading force in Bangladesh’s competitive programming community. Founded on May 4, 2013, MCC began with the vision of empowering MIST students to excel in programming and problem-solving. Guided early on by Amit Kumar Saha (CSE-08) and founding president Kishwar Shafin (CSE-10), the club laid strong foundations that continue to inspire students more than a decade later.
Over the years, MCC has achieved remarkable competitive success. After entering the ICPC Asia West Championship (AWC) in 2021, MIST rapidly climbed the ranks. In 2024, Team MIST_FrostByte_1.2 placed 17th overall and 6th among Bangladeshi teams, alongside securing 33rd place at NCPC 2023. Female participation has also risen significantly, with strong performances in national all-girls contests. MCC’s growing strength led to securing five slots in the ICPC Asia Dhaka Regional 2024—up from just one in 2020.
The club continues to cultivate talent through events, orientations, and recognition programs that motivate newcomers and celebrate top performers. In 2025, three MIST teams placed in the top 50 at UIU IUPC, and several members achieved specialist, expert, and Candidate Master ranks on Codeforces.
